VISUAL INSPECTION
Visual inspections should be carried out by persons competent to do so. The results of this inspection must be documented.
The following must be considered when carrying out the inspection.
- The socket outlet, if known
- Some non rewireable plugs cannot be opened for inspection.
- Signs of overheating, burnt odours, stressed cables.
- Security of all terminal screws.
- Correct fuse - BS, ASTA marked.
ELECTRICAL TESTS
We use the Metrel OMEGAPAT for conducting our tests. The units are independently calibrated and certified.
Earth Bond
The first required test is the Earth Bond test. This verifies the integrity of the earth on the appliance. Our testers can also check IT equipment through an approved test that uses a reduced test current which will not damage electronic equipment.
Insulation Test
The next required test is the Insulation test. This verifies that the insulation on cables and tracks in the appliance is sufficient to isolate the live conductors from the earthed parts of the appliance.
Earth Leakage Test
This is a further test of the insulation under operating conditions. This can be useful for finding if an appliance is causing nuisance tripping of RCD's.
Run Test
This can be used to ensure that the appliance is not drawing excess current at startup.
Flash Test
This is an insulation test carried out at more vigorous test voltages and should be used with caution.
Polarity Test
This is used to verify the polarity of leads etc.
